For years, I’ve read about telephone polls asking about everything from approval of the president to one’s favorite brand of toilet paper. But I’ve never been polled like that before. Nor has anyone else I’ve ever talked to about it if the subject came up. (It’s not like I use that subject for a conversation starter at parties.)
Until last night. I got a call from Gallup. I would say they’re probably the best known polling company. The were polling on the president’s approval rating. They called within ten minutes of the end of his speech last night, so I assumed those two events were connected; but on further reflection, I think it was just coincidence that they called after the speech since the caller didn’t ask if I had watched the speech.
For the record:
“Do you approve or disapprove of the president overall?” DISAPPROVE
“Do you approve or disapprove of the president’s handling of the war in Iraq?” DISAPPROVE
“Do you believe there will be an act of terrorism in the United States in the next several weeks?” NO
“What is the condition of the economy?” GOOD
“Do you think the president was right to invade Iraq?” NO
