I may have mentioned, a time or twelve, on Facebook and to everyone I talk to, that Robin bought me Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, on DVD. It is, frankly, a little embarrassing just how excited I am about this birthday gift.
When the show first started, I was in high school, and my best friend and I often made special trips to each other’s houses to watch it together. When we couldn’t, we’d call each other to say, “Can you BELIEVE what Dr. Mike just did?”
It’s not Robin’s favorite show. He feels that it is unlikely, historically speaking, that a woman doctor would move from Boston to the Colorado territory, repeatedly save a town from myriad disasters using nothing but grit, determination, and the occasional traditional treatment she learned from the Cheyenne. That she would further adopt three children and then fall in love with a renegade lawyer-turned-homesteader-turned-mountain-man-turned-Indian-representative only strengthens his position.
We just watched an episode as a family. Karina: “Here comes Sully! He will fix it!” Ben: “Daddy, why don’t you like Dr. Quinn!?” Riya: “It had some sad parts, but it was so happy at the end!”
New Kids on the Block, the Bangles, and now Dr. Quinn. I got to the kids first, and they like ’em all. And Robin can’t compete, because his shows, like Prison Break, are completely inappropriate.

The fact that you know Sully’s chain of past occupations/societal roles has me in awe.
Robin’s take on the historical accuracy is pessimistic. I don’t see any reason why it couldn’t have happened that way. It’s practically a reality show.
